Franz Tomasek, head of legislative research and development for the South African Revenue Service (SARS), explains how companies are selected for audit and reveals the many possible methods for dispute resolution available in the country.
Please describe the transfer pricing function in the tax authority in your country?
SARS has had a centralised transfer pricing team for a number of years. The team is located in SARSs Large Business Centre, which deals with all the tax issues of the largest businesses in South Africa. The team advises tax auditors across SARS on transfer pricing issues and works with tax auditors on all transfer pricing audits.
