Tax authorities around the world are stepping up their enforcement efforts on transfer pricing to secure their share of diminishing tax revenues. Despite this global trend, chief financial officers and tax directors should keep a close eye on key jurisdictions. Japan is already one of the most challenging tax environments with an aggressive audit regime and will become more challenging considering the impact of the economic crisis and multinationals’ responses to dealing with reduced profits, losses and defending policies and positions that were developed during times of economic growth.
