Ruling by Indian regulator could hit global pharmaceuticals companies

A lack of transparency in transfer pricing for the market for insulin has resulted in a better deal for India’s diabetics. While this is good news for patients, pharmaceuticals company Novo Nordisk – which controls 80% of the global insulin market – could be severely penalised. India’s National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) – the country’s drugs regulator – identified a lack of transparency in transfer prices for insulin. As a result, it has put a ceiling on the prices which can be charged for the product in the Indian market.
