Indian transfer pricing authorities to increase headcount

The Indian transfer pricing administration is ramping up and internal sources suggest that it is close to doubling its current staff strength and spreading into locations to where transfer pricing officers were not located earlier.
During the past years, the transfer pricing officers individually handled close to 250 cases. The referred proposal to add more adjudicating officers and support staff would equitably bring down the number of cases for each transfer pricing officer. This would also pose a challenge to international companies as this could mean greater scrutiny during audit. Also, with the recent order of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal in Aztec Software case providing some clarity on certain critical issues, it is expected that administrative appeal process would speed up.
